THE MORNING I THOUGHT I DIED
I was unable to move a millimeter
as I watched stars on my window
turn into more than a few flies.
My body screamed in silence,
and seemed frozen in time.
I tried to talk it into moving,
but it had a will of its own saying: NO!
I can’t just stay in bed all day—
what will the neighbors think?
They may call the cops to see
If I’m still alive, and won’t they
be surprised when I answer the
door in my pajamas.
